It’s remarkable for any company in the lumber industry to run a profitable business for the past 80+ years, but Matheus Lumber continues to expand by relying on the basic principles of providing great customer services and competitive prices.
It began in 1932 when William (Bill) Matheus founded the company in Seattle, WA. In 1942, Matheus Lumber furnished the bulk of the lumber for the Bailey Bridge Program which played a big part in hastening the end of WWII. In the early 1960’s, Matheus Lumber supplied materials to seven of the main structures at the 1962 World’s Fair in Seattle. The second generation of the Matheus family took the reins and incorporated Matheus Lumber Company in 1964. Matheus Lumber was a key participant in the construction of the Alaska Pipeline project, including providing materials for the toll road to Prudhoe Bay in 1970.
Our history and continued dedication to providing the right materials at the right time, has made us Washington's number one supplier of forest products since 1932.
From residential homes, roads, bridges, commercial buildings, multifamily, schools, marinas, or any other project, you can rely on Matheus Lumber to provide high quality construction materials to meet your goals.
In 1986 the company established its first large distribution yard in Tacoma, WA, then consolidated all its operations to Woodinville, WA in 1993.
In 2002 Matheus Lumber opened two new branch offices: an Ellensburg, WA distribution facility and a regional office in Vancouver, WA. The Ellensburg branch expanded Matheus’ presence in central and eastern Washington. Among its many clients are builders constructing custom homes in the Suncadia project in Cle Elum, WA. The Vancouver, WA office supports clients in the Portland, OR market as well as into Northern California.
In the last ten years Matheus Lumber has added offices in Post Falls, ID; San Marcos, TX; Portland, OR; Phoenix, AZ and Mobile, AL. Each of these facilities are staffed by experienced professionals who have earned the loyalty of hundreds of customers building multi-family apartments, senior-living facilities, commercial projects, and single-family homes.
Matheus Lumber has played an important role in many large infrastructure projects throughout the country. In Seattle, Matheus Lumber provided the form board, timbers, lagging, and lumber for the Kingdome, and its replacement Quest Field, as well as Safeco Field.
Recently, Matheus Lumber is supplying products to the Seattle Tunnel Partners, the consortium of companies boring the new traffic tunnel under Seattle. The company is also supplying crane mats, timber, and form board for the new 520 floating bridge across Lake Washington. Matheus is also supplying lumber, timbers, and form board to all five of the big Joint-ventures building the $57 Billion Light Rail project in Puget Sound.
